Post Treatment:

  • It is normal following electrolysis for the treated area to be red and slightly swollen. Both of these conditions usually disappear in an hour or two but can last longer.
  • The following post-treatment care suggestions should be followed for the first 24 hours after treatment.
  • In general, avoid any kind of activity that would subject the treated skin to irritating conditions while it is in the healing stage. After treatment, the follicle is trying to heal from the inside out so anything that gets into the follicle that may be bacterial may have a negative response like a pimple or folliculitis (bacteria infected follicles).
    • Keep the area clean with witch hazel, soap and water or other suitable antiseptic.
    • Daily moisturizing after cleaning is very important.
    • Apply ice to the treated area to reduce any swelling if necessary.
    • You can apply an antibiotic cream to help minimize infection in the treated area but it's usually not necessary.
    • Keep your hands off the area. If any scabs or tiny crusts (usually on body work) appear following treatment, tell me at your next appointment. Do not pick them off.
    • If you have had body work, for the next 24 hours do not go in a hot tub, lake or other body of water that may harbor a lot of bacteria. The follicle is trying heal from the inside out and if anything gets into the follicle right after treatment pimple could form or folliculitis.
    • If you have face work done and need to apply make-up the same day, the best product to use is fresh mineral makeup with a clean applicator after treatment on the face.
